Yes, that is a very impressive system. The video card is really underpowered versus the rest of the specs, but that can be easily upgraded. I have the exact same LCD also, it's amazingly bright and clear.
Your friend is clearly an enthusiast with a good taste for parts, but I really have to scratch my head with the video card.. Of all the things to skimp on, it was that?!
Good system nonetheless. It has lots of years ahead of it.
