Did the Death of Mitch Miller completely disconnect us from the age of the Old West and the 19th century?
His songs were all old folk songs and sang consistently about this period. He was also born in 1911, the dying end of the Old West. The first 9 or 10 years of his life the old west was still hanging onto dear life.
Did the passing of this 99 year old hero signify the end of an age? Do we have to say goodbye to the age of the cowboy?
Mitch Miller was like The Music Man, hardly like Billy the Kid or even the dapper Bat Masterson.
His old TV show ran the lyrics at the bottom of the screen and the 'bouncing ball' kept the viewer on the correct word for sing-along. The music was like Barbershop Quartet. Totally 20th Century & Eastern, not Western.
Gene Autry & John Wayne would be better connects to the Old West.
Wyatt Earp's death in 1929 might truly signify the passing of the 19th Century Old West.
