KODAK MOMENTS IN SCRIPTURE
…”Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away
the sin of the world!” (John 1:29, NIV)
There are certain Kodak moments in Scripture where I have often thought, “wouldn’t it be awesome
to have been there?” I would love to have seen the ark that Noah built
and every kind of animal God created boarding it two by two (Gen. 7:9), and Joseph being reunited with his brothers, including
Benjamin, whom he had never met, and his father, Jacob, after twenty years of separation (Gen. 45:7; 46:29-30). David, a mere boy, taking a sling shot and large stone, and slaying the giant Philistine Goliath is another
definite Kodak moment in Scripture (I Sam. 17:50-51).
Other favorite Kodak moments would include God delivering the Ten Commandments at Mt. Sinai (Exodus 20:1-17),
along with all the special effects including thunder, lightning, the sound of the trumpet and the mountain spewing smoke (v.
18); John the Baptist seeing Jesus for the first time in the flesh and exclaiming, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes
away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). I also enjoy picturing Mary Magdalene
and Mary the mother of James arriving at Jesus’ tomb three days after He was crucified, seeing the stone rolled back
and an angel clothed in white, sitting on the stone (Matt. 28:1-8). Can you imagine
the expression on their faces? The angel’s words are classic: “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see
the place where He lay” (vs. 5-6).
These are some of my favorite Kodak moments from Scripture. What
are yours? I look forward to meeting these inspiring Biblical characters one
day in Heaven. Their lives weren’t easy or perfect, and neither are ours
as we struggle daily with chronic illness and pain. But the above-mentioned Bible
characters were faithful in following Christ, and we, too, must persevere until we reach our eternal home. Oh, and when I meet Jesus face to face and cast my crown at His feet, that will be the greatest Kodak moment
of all!
Lamb of God, we praise for Your great faithfulness to us!
