JEHOVAH-JIREH, MY PROVIDER
“And my God will meet all your needs according to
His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19, NIV)
I became a Christian in the seventh grade during a chapel service at a Christian
school. I remember bowing my head and asking Jesus Christ to forgive me for my
sins and be Lord of my life. In my late twenties, God led me to attend a Bible
College. It was there that I first learned to trust in God as my Jehovah-Jireh. Seeing God faithfully provide for my tuition and needs during those three years of
Bible College greatly strengthened my faith and trust in Him. He continually
provided for me right up until the last day of classes when a man from my church unexpectedly arrived to pay my remaining
tuition. God never missed a beat!
In Scripture, a story that beautifully illustrates the Lord’s provision is Abraham and Isaac. When Isaac was a young man, God tested Abraham and told him to take his only son Isaac, whom he loved,
and offer him as a burnt offering on a mountain that God would specify (Gen. 22:2).
Without a murmur of protest or complaint, Abraham rose early the next morning, saddled his donkey, took two young men
and Isaac, and went to the place God had told him to go (Gen. 22:3). That is
amazing obedience on Abraham’s part! What is even more amazing is that
he trusted in God to provide the sacrifice and that he would return with his son (Gen. 22:5).
As Abraham was preparing to kill Isaac with a knife, an Angel of the Lord called to him, instructing him not to kill
Isaac (Gen. 22:12). Instead, God, in His great mercy, provided a ram for the
sacrifice (22:13).
What about you? Do you trust in God to provide? Do you put your life and the lives of those you love completely in His hands, just as Abraham did with
Isaac? Today, God still faithfully provides for all of His children’s needs,
and many of our wants also, according to His glorious riches in Christ (Phil. 4:19).
He will always be Jehovah-Jireh, our Provider!
Dear Jesus: Thank
You for providing for us so abundantly each day.
