GOD’S
CONTINUAL CARE
“Those
who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 125:1-2, NIV)
Recently, my husband
and I returned from a trip to the mountains. It was wonderful to get away, relax,
sightsee and enjoy the peace, beauty and serenity of the mountains. We stayed
in a rustic cabin and each morning we were able to have our quiet time with the Lord overlooking the most magnificent view
in all of Maggie Valley. With the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains surrounding
us, I was reminded of the above Scripture verses and God’s continual care for His people.
In the Scriptures,
mountains often symbolize God’s protection over believers and denote great strength and power, pointing to Jesus Christ
as the Strength of His people. Jerusalem, God’s chosen city, was surrounded
by mountains, which were important in the defense of the city, and also picture God’s constant protective presence. The mountains surrounding us were a continual reminder to me of God’s constant
care for us.
Someone
in Scripture who recognized God’s continual care over his life was King David.
David was chosen by God to be king when he was just a young boy. After
slaying Goliath and winning many battles, David became very popular with the Israelites and Saul became very jealous, plotting
to kill David (I Samuel 18:8-9). Twice, Saul threw his spear at David while he
played music to soothe him, but David escaped. Saul tried to kill David many
times, but the Lord faithfully protected David’s life.
Gazing at the
majestic mountains, I was reminded of God’s continual love, care and protection over my life. Although life can be very difficult to understand at times, especially when severe trials come our way,
Christians are still assured of God’s constant presence with us (Hebrews 13:5; Matt. 28:20) and tender care for us (Psalm
125:1-2). Since God never sleeps, He is constantly watching over us (Psalm 121:4). With the Lord as our Keeper (Psalm 121:5), we have nothing to fear!
Dear
Jesus, thank you for your constant Presence with us and for your continual care and protection over us.
