Do senior NCOs resent having to salute younger and less-experienced commissioned officers?
I have scheduled my meeting with the local Marine Corps OSO, as I will be graduating college in the next 2 years, and I am interested in serving as a commissioned officer in the military. There are many, many issues I need to consider before making such a serious commitment. One of the most important issues is whether I will be able to earn the respect of my NCOs once I am an officer, hypothetically. I am wondering if Sergeants, Staff Sergeants, Gunnery Sergeants, etc. (and their equivalent ranks in the other services) ever resent having to salute an officer simply because he wears butter bars instead of chevrons and rockers?
Like stated above by Marine NCO, it is up to you as a leader to earn your troops' respect. They will salute you regardless but you want your troops to claim you as "their PL" with pride.
