Is my fish sensitive to sound outside the bowl?
I just bought a small fantail, and it's in a large bowl. Please, don't tell me I need a bigger bowl, because I've had fantails before in a bowl and they lived for a while and had no problems. I just want to know if it's shy or sensitive because it just sits at the bottom of the bowl. It only swims around when there is complete silence, but as soon as I make the slightest noise, it darts back to the same exact spot on the bottom. It's weird.
Yes, fish should not be kept near stereos, television sets, or high traffic areas because the vibrations will stress them, but..
I would be more worried about what is going on inside the bowl. Ammonia burns/poisoning, stunted growth, suffocation, and a premature death awaits your goldfish.
How can you justify getting a few years out of an animal that should live at least 25 years?
A proper home would be at least a twenty gallon cycled aquarium with double the filtration.
