When software is developed, do we sometimes end up with two versions each competing to be the released version
Developers will start with, say Version 3, and add enhancements, finishing up with, say, version 3.11.2.7.4.2, which they might wish to call "version 4".
Meanwhile a, perhaps rogue, section of the same organisation will have commenced their own work on "version 4".
So the two sections will produce versions, which perhaps bear little relation to each other, which each might be labelled "version 4".
It is that way with most products I recon, so what you suggest makes sense to me.
