A couple of questions about 8-ball?
1. If a person gets a ball-in-hand while trying to pocket the 8 ball, do they lose (not a scratch, but they do not hit the 8 ball with the cue ball)?
2. If the table is open, can the shooter use a stripe ball to pocket a solid ball (or vice versa)?

Per world-standardized rules:
1. No, this does not fall under the loss of game fouls. It is only a loss of game if the foul occurs when the 8 ball is pocketed, or if the 8 ball is driven off the table.
2. Yes, when the table is open, any group can be hit first to pocket any ball. It is not allowed to contact the 8 ball first though.
