how come when a diamond ring shines in the sunlight has a dark/black tint?
when i look at the ring in the sunlight it shines in a black or dark tint. Is this normal?
That has to do with the cut of the diamond - not the shape, but the physical dimensions. A properly cut diamond will reflect the sunlight back out, which you see as "sparkle" and "fire", or play of color.
When a diamond looks dark in the light, it is from incorrect cutting. It may be that the stone was cut too shallow, or that the table across the top is too wide, allowing light to escape without being refracted properly.
