Are there any laws in Texas that help us shut down bars where numerous fights occur almost every night?
I live in a town with many bars. One place has fights almost every night. It is two blocks from my home. Last night, women were assaulting each other with billiards cue sticks. Last week, a woman was punched by a man. When her friend intervened, the attacker's five friends attacked them as well. This type of thing happens here quite a bit. Thank you.
I think the state laws are rather weak on this issue. You would have better luck using existing city ordinances (or trying to get new ones instituted) for this purpose. You have to prove public nuisance. If the bar is within so many feet of a school, church, etc., you will have better luck. Do some research on the local ordinances in your community and talk to the neighbors. In the meantime, keep the pressure on by calling in and reporting disturbances to the authorities and also by trying to bring it to the attention of the local media. Look for other citizens and groups who feel as you do, such as local civic clubs, organizations, churches, etc. to help you band together toward community improvement.
If you are out in the county, or in a town where law enforcement is weak, you may be more or less out of luck.
