Cue problem?
I have a 11 years old billiard cue custom which has recently acquired a green tint on the ash tree America. I was told that one cause for this problem is due to contact between the tail and foam covering the aluminum case I store the marker is in. Does a legitimate reason for such failure or is it likely was something else. If so, is it possible to restore the tail? A thank you.
The green tint is normal. there are a number of reasons, however, I am not convinced that your case is the problem. you use chalk on the point gets across. He can be very dusty, such as flour. the dust gets on your hands and then transfer to the tail like you and take your pen shot. also, the sweat and oils from your hands and chin on the tail will rise and after the time the oil will rot and turn green. None of these affect the performance indices. If it was long and green tail penetrated far enough, you might not be able to clean it. if it has just begun to turn green, u might want to try sanding it lightly with the grain. do not take too much off, just enough to get into the grain and remove dirt green. then using a damp cloth, giving it a vigorous cleaning, dry immediately. repeat until the green has disappeared or gone. Then, get some linseed oil on a cloth and lightly coat the tail in it. let stand 10 minutes to fix and polish with a clean, dry cloth to a shine. (Polishing after using flax seed oil can be a difficult job, as it hardens.) This should prevent Green back. a light sanding and oiling should be done every 6 months - 1 year. just do not sand too hard or you sand your cue away. ps linseed oil is better because it seep into the marker, hard and dry, preventing dirt back in. If you have trouble finding linseed oil, just to use any natural oil, for example, vegetable oil, as it will the same work, but usually dry hard. and you will need to reapply for it monthly leak again. Hope that helps.
