Brief introduction to darts
The origins of darts are a little confused, although the board that we recognize today has been in existence since the early 19th century century. Popular across the UK since the turn of the century it was traditional pub game before becoming a recognized sport. Originally made of wood, now darts are made from natural sisal fibers that are compressed together and then glued a support panel. A board standard measures 17 ¾ inches in diameter and is divided into twenty sections by a wire. The figures showing the different sections rating are usually made of wire, especially on tournament-quality boards, but cheaper boards may just have the number printed.
Federation World Darts some of the standardized measures used in a game, the dartboard should be hung so that the official "Bulls Eye" (or center of the board darts) is exactly 5 feet 8 inches off the ground. Players must stand behind a standard line (or "oche" pronounced Okki) 7 feet 9 ¼ inches from the face of the board of darts.
Each player has three darts and the tips of them were originally made of brass. Thirteen tips can still be made of brass well these days, the material of choice for a player will usually tungsten alloy. Most of the arrow (the tree) can be made from plastic materials, aluminum or composite. Finally, there is the "theft" of the dart, which, although usually made from plastic, can also be made from feathers.
